Prologue - Diary of Dr. Walter Dickson -- -20 days to Patient Zero

Diary of Dr. Walter Dickson

It has been, what, 8 days since I have last written in this diary?? Oh god, the timespan between. What exhilaration! Let me start, now, let's see, where was I? Oh yes, yes. Hendrik. Well, after injecting the viral strain, he displayed no mutations, nothing. Even after waiting for several hours, there was still nothing. So we decided not to risk it and injected the cure. After several checks, we found no strain of the virus at all in Hendrik's body.

After running dry of ideas, I was about to suggest to Heatha that we leave the place. She is vehemently against it, not wishing to leave the place without a result. And thus, she contacted the tribesmen. Apparently, Hendrik can speak the local language and as such, he helped us translate. We managed to convince the tribesmen to provide us with some of their poisons and the like that were passed down from generations, possibly for animals or invading people. And thus we started to look into it.

That took several days and we have since tried to merge our created viral strain with all the samples of the poisons provided. It did take a while, and we finally did it!!!

However, we have since, yet to try it out. Apparently, part of one of the ancient venoms was supposed to have been from a rabid tiger. Which is both fascinating and terrifying at the same time. They have since mixed that cocktail with other animals that have been rabid. That was also the reason why we did not try it out. I mean, honestly, what are the odds??

We are definitely not taking the risk of actually trying this new strain of "Green" on Hendrik or anybody else. After the merging, we also spotted that the viral strain seemed to be evolving. Or, mutating. It seem to be constantly changing. Which is extremely weird. We are going to be conducting some tests on it now. See how it reacts with Penicillin and antibiotics. After this cup of coffee, I am off to work again!

Ps. Alice does not seem to be too happy about this.. There had been no choice but to tell her about it, seeing that Heatha had been extremely adamant about making our current research a success.

This new "Green" viral strain is extremely, well, tenacious. We have been trying with all kinds of antibiotics and even the new cure we have created. But so far, nothing seems to work. The antibiotics and the cure was supposed to help fight and destroy the viral strain, but apparently, they failed to do so. The viral strain seemed as though it actually absorbed the antibiotics and/or the cure and continue to mutate.

Heatha and I are currently working extremely quickly on it. Also, there is also a fear that someone might actually stumble upon it and unintentionally break it. No one wants that! There is, currently, no cure for it. Oh god. After this quick dinner, I am off to the labs again!

It looks like this holiday trip turned out to be useless in helping me escape my work. Oh well. Dear Alice will just have to wait for me to be done. I do not know how long it will take, but it'll be for a while. Hopefully fast enough!
